Introduction to the Project

A unique art project is being launched in Lincoln to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The project, which aims to celebrate the concept of freedom, is calling on the public to contribute to a large-scale digital mosaic.

What is the Project About

The digital mosaic, titled "Our Freedom: Back Then and Now," will consist of over 5,000 pictures of people from all over Lincolnshire. The organizers have announced that the mosaic will be displayed with noise, light, and projection, and will also be printed on aluminum to reflect the district’s rich aviation history.

How to Contribute

Members of the public can submit their images online or at a number of local drop-in sessions starting from October. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to be a part of this historic project and to share their thoughts and feelings about freedom.

The Final Display

The final artwork will be unveiled at the Lincoln Arts Center in November. The center’s creative and senior director, Ben Anderson, has expressed his excitement about the project, stating that it is a chance for Lincolnshire to contribute to a national conversation about freedom.

The Significance of the Project

Anderson believes that the project is a meaningful way to honor the past and to reflect on what freedom means today. He notes that with global conflicts still affecting lives, it is a poignant moment to explore the concept of freedom through art.

The Bigger Picture

The Lincolnshire project is one of 80 similar projects taking place across Great Britain to mark the end of the Second World War. The project is being funded by the government through the Arts Council England, and is a testament to the importance of remembering and learning from history.

Getting Involved

The project is a great way for people to get involved in their community and to be a part of something special. By contributing to the digital mosaic, individuals can help to create a unique and thought-provoking piece of art that will be remembered for years to come.
