Introduction to Ice Road: Vengeance

Liam Neeson’s action thriller, Ice Road: Vengeance, has given fans a new way to engage with the leading man after its lukewarm theater run at the beginning of this year. The film was first released on June 27, 2025, and has now made its way to Netflix.

Reception and Performance

Ice Road: Vengeance currently holds a score of 17% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and the audience reception is not far ahead, with a score of 28%. Critics have marked the film’s familiar beats and thin plot compared to its predecessor, and the audience did not bring the title to the mainstream box office discussion. As a result, the theater run of the sequel ended well under the typical studio expectations for an action film led by a star.

Plot and Direction

In the sequel, Neeson reprises his role as Mike McCann, who again navigates treacherous icy roads in Nepal when a new mission puts his life at stake. He plans to scatter the ashes of his late brother on Mount Everest, but soon after, his group is hunted by mercenaries. The film is directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, who also led the first installment. In terms of the plot, fans can expect a revenge-fueled story as McCann faces ruthless mercenaries in a fight against the brutal elements.

Streaming Performance

While Ice Road: Vengeance prepares for its Netflix debut, it has already started making waves on Prime Video. The film is currently trending as #1 in the top 10 Prime Video films in the world, surpassing several major titles. At the time of writing, Ben Affleck’s The Accountant is at #10, Mark Wahlberg’s Shooter is at #8, and even older Neeson films like The Commuter fall behind Ice Road: Vengeance.

Liam Neeson’s Versatility

Interestingly, the streaming success comes exactly as Neeson reminded audiences of his comedic chops with The Bare Weapon, which had a theatrical release at the beginning of this year. This film highlighted another side of the actor and showed that he can still pull in crowds outside of his usual action genre. Ice Road: Vengeance, on the other hand, proves that Neeson’s action thrillers can find a strong audience as soon as they reach streaming platforms, even with mixed reviews and a familiar formula.

Availability

Ice Road: Vengeance is currently streaming on Prime Video and is now available on Netflix. Fans can catch up with its prequel, The Ice Road, on HBO Max, Prime Video, and Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates on the film’s performance and Liam Neeson’s upcoming projects.
