Plot and Setting
The movie, shot in Warsaw, Poland, revolves around two women who find themselves in a complicated romantic situation. The story begins when Bethany, played by Charli XCX, and her new friend travel to Warsaw to visit her childhood friend Nel, played by Góra. As the three spend more time together, they become entangled in a romantic network that forces them to question their place in the universe.
Production and Release
The film was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in cinemas in 2026. The filmmakers have partnered with CAA Media Finance for the release, while Enlargement will handle international sales. Pete Ohs served as the author, producer, director, editor, and cameraman for Eruption, following his creative process, which often finds inspiration in specific locations. Charli XCX, playwright Harris, Will Madden, and Góra all contributed to the script.
Director’s Statement
Ohs expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "After all, another cool distributor for cool films. We need more of them. I have a lot of hope for 1-2 special." He also mentioned that 1-2 Special has already had a strong start, with films by notable directors such as Harris Dickinson, Christian Petzold, Simón Mesa Soto, and Radu Jude being part of the lineup.
Acquisitions and Awards
Since the start of the year, 1-2 Special has acquired several notable films, including jury award winners such as A Poet, which was announced as an Oscar submission for Colombia, and Dickinson’s Cannes premiere Urban. Other acquisitions include Christian Petzold’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight entry SPIEGEL No. 3 and Jude’s Locarno selection Dracula. These additions demonstrate the company’s commitment to supporting innovative and critically acclaimed films.
