Introduction to a New Film

The South Korean film industry is buzzing with the latest news of a new movie, "On the Way to", which is set to make its world premiere in Busan’s first competition. The film is directed by Yoo Jae-in, a talented young filmmaker who has already made a name for herself with her short films.

The Plot of the Film

The movie tells the story of Yun-Ji, a student who becomes pregnant after an affair with her married teacher. When the teacher suddenly disappears, Yun-Ji is left to deal with the consequences of her actions. She decides to seek an abortion and steals her roommate’s savings to buy illegal pills to end the pregnancy. The film explores themes of teenage pregnancy, abortion, and the struggles of young women in South Korea.

The Cast and Crew

The film features a talented cast, including Sim Su-Bin as Yun-Ji, Lee Ji-Won, and Jang Sun. Yoo Jae-in not only directed the film but also wrote the script, making it a truly personal project. This is her feature film debut, and it marks a significant milestone in her career.

The Director’s Background

Yoo Jae-in is a graduate of the Korean Academy of Film Arts, and "On the Way to" is her final project. She has previously directed several short films, including "Happyhappy Cooktime", "Hey how are you?", and "Return to the sender". Her short film "Ghwa the last name" won the best short film award at the Blue Dragon Awards in 2023.

International Sales and Distribution

The film’s international sales will be handled by Hive Filmworks, a Seoul-based film production and distribution company. They will be presenting the film to international buyers at the Asian Film and Contents Market (ACFM), which will take place alongside the Busan festival from September 20 to September 23.

Other Upcoming Films

Hive Filmworks has a slate of other upcoming films, including the romance "Niko" by French filmmaker Julien Birban Levy and the mystery thriller "Home a loan" by Kororas Kim Kane-Kyeong. These films showcase the diversity and talent of the South Korean film industry.

The Busan Festival

The Busan festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals in Asia, and this year’s edition will feature a competition section with 14 titles from across the continent. The 30th edition of the festival will take place from September 17 to 26, and it promises to be an exciting event for film enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.
