Behind the Scenes of "War of the Worlds"

Ice Cube has given fans a glimpse into the making of his latest science fiction thriller, "War of the Worlds". In a recent interview with Kai Cenat, the "Friday" star revealed that the remake of the viral film was shot in 2020 during the Covid pandemic.

A Challenging Shoot

Ice Cube explained that his scenes were completed in just 15 days, without the director or one of his co-stars being present. "[‘War of the Worlds’] Was a film that I made during the pandemic in 2020, " he said. "We shot it in 15 days and it was during the pandemic. So the director was not there. None of the actors was in there. This was the only way we could really make the film."

Delays and Production Issues

The film took five years to complete, partly because it was originally shot by Universal, which then sold it to Amazon. Ice Cube claimed that the rest of the footage outside of his scenes also contributed to the delay. "The entire film material comes from real surveillance cameras all over the world," he added. "So they had to build all these sets [and then collect and edit the footage]."

The Film’s Success

"War of the Worlds", which was adapted loosely from the science fiction novel of the same name by HG Wells, quickly became a viral sensation after its trailer debuted at the end of July. The film was released on July 30th and held the number one spot on Amazon’s most-watched list in 30 markets, including the USA.

The Plot and Cast

In "War of the Worlds", Ice Cube plays William Radford, a computer security analyst who is thrown into the center of a global disaster when aliens invade Earth. The film also stars Eva Longoria, Iman Benson, Henry Hunter Hall, Clark Gregg, and Devon Bostick. Ice Cube’s character must navigate this new and dangerous world, using his skills to try and save humanity from the alien threat.
