Introduction to Puschkin Industries

Puschkin Industries is making a big impact on the entertainment industry with its wide range of shows for autumn. The audio studio is using the "network effect" among its creators and hosts, which has been built since the company was founded in 2018. This approach allows the company to create a content hub from which other media extensions can sprout.

Business Vision and Growth Driver

Eric Sandler, Chief Strategy Officer from Pushkin, discusses the business vision, growth driver, and prospects of the company in an interview on the latest episode of the "Daily Variety" podcast. One of the highlights of Puschkin’s slate is a look back at "The Big Short" with author Michael Lewis. Puschkin will publish Lewis’ first audio book edition, and Lewis will organize an accompanying podcast to rethink the most important events and players in the 2008 mortgage crisis.

The Depth of Content

Sandler comments on the depth of content that Puschkin’s creators work with, using "The Big Short" as an example. "It’s ten years since the film, but it is almost like a content pipeline reversal. Fifteen years ago it was a best-selling book. Ten years ago it was an Oscar-winning film, and next month it will be an accompanying podcast with an audio book," says Sandler. "It is still as relevant today as he wrote it."

The Network Effect

Sandler refers to another example of what he calls Pushkin’s "Network effect" to illustrate how the audio company uses its content hub to create other media extensions. Malcolm Gladwell did a "Revisionist History" series "The Bomber Mafia" in 2021, which was then transformed into an audio book for Puschkin. The company then sold the print rights, and it was selected by A24 for a TV film. This approach allows Puschkin to create more opportunities for storytellers to use its platform as a test floor for content.

Exclusive Interviews

As a result of Puschkin’s network effect, the company is able to secure exclusive interviews with prominent figures in the entertainment industry. For example, Executive Editor from Music, Aswad, recently sat down with pioneering musician David Byrne. As a long-time fan, Aswad brings a unique perspective to the profile of the former front man of Talking Heads, which was published in Diversity’s September 2 Print Edition and on Variety.com on September 5th.

A Glimpse into the Psyche of an Artist

Aswad’s interview with David Byrne provides a glimpse into the psyche of an artist who has had a career that spans many different styles and shapes. Byrne’s office in downtown New York is a reflection of his creative mind, with shelves loaded with vinyl, DVDs, and even a Grammy. The interview is a fascinating insight into the way Byrne’s brain works and how he approaches music and storytelling.

Conclusion

Puschkin Industries is a company that is making a significant impact on the entertainment industry with its innovative approach to content creation. By using the "network effect" among its creators and hosts, the company is able to create a content hub that spawns other media extensions. With exclusive interviews and a deep understanding of the content its creators work with, Puschkin is poised for continued growth and success. The "Daily Variety" podcast is available on various platforms, including iHeartPodcasts, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, Amazon Music, and Spotify.
