Honoring Music Legends and Changemakers

The Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) is set to host its fifth annual gala, celebrating music, culture, and impact. This year’s event will take place on September 18 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, hosted by Mickey Guyton and Kenny Burns. The organization will honor several individuals and companies for their contributions to the music industry and social justice.

Award Winners

John Legend will receive the BMAC Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award, while Irving Azoff will be awarded the BMAC Icon Award. Sherese Clarke and HarbourView Equity Partners will receive the first BMAC Harry Belafonte Change Agent Award. Kai Cenat and Apple Music will be awarded the BMAC Social Impact Award, and Primary Wave Music will receive the BMAC 365 Award.

A Celebration of Innovation and Justice

According to Willie "Prophet" Stiggers, co-founder, President, and CEO of BMAC, "This year’s award winners are not just innovators and changemakers. They are warriors for justice and visionaries of a future for which we refuse to fight ourselves." These individuals and companies have made significant contributions to the music industry, breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for emerging artists.

The Impact of BMAC

Since its founding in 2020, BMAC has made a significant impact on the music industry. The organization has distributed over $4 million in direct economic relief, supported over 5,500 students, and mentored over 500 emerging music artists and industry professionals. BMAC has also created over 200 paid internships and jobs, and introduced guaranteed income programs to support aspiring music artists and industry managers.

A Humbling Recognition

John Legend expressed his gratitude for being recognized by BMAC, stating, "It is an honor to be recognized by the Black Music Action Coalition, an organization that not only uplifts artists, but also fights for justice, equity, and lasting change in our industry and beyond." Legend emphasized the importance of promoting social justice and using music as a force for positive change, citing the legacy of Quincy Jones as a reminder of the power of music to inspire and uplift.
