Introduction to Call of Duty Film

The makers of Call of Duty have completed a deal to transform the video game into a live-action film. The series, which launched in 2003, is one of the most popular in the world and regularly leads the annual bestseller charts for consoles and PC. Publisher Activision has announced that it will work with Movie Studio Paramount to transform the game into a blockbuster "to inspire its massive global fan base".

The Dream Project

There was no indication of potential plot strands or actors, but the CEO of Paramount, David Ellison, said: "As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty, this is really a dream." Mr. Ellison said he had spent "countless hours" playing the Call of Duty games, and that "it is an honor and a responsibility that we do not take lightly" in order to put them on the screen.

Bringing the Game to Life

Activision President Rob Kostich said that the film would aim to use the same imagination in the games to "create an unforgettable blockbuster film experience that loves our community and who also excites and inspires new fans of the franchise". There have been 23 main entries in the Call of Duty series, with each set inspired by conflicts and situations in real life in a different period of time and a story. According to Activision, more than 500 million games have been sold in the series since its start.

Joining the Ranks of Other Video Game Films

It is the latest in a long series of video games, including The Legend of Zelda, Elden Ring, and The Sims, which are to be transformed into films. This is behind the huge success of the Super Mario Bros film 2023 and this year’s Minecraft film and popularity of TV series such as The Last of Us and Fallout. Paramount previously published the successful Sonic the Hedgehog adaptations and is the studio behind action hits Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible.

Paramount’s Recent Moves

Last year, the studio brought together with the US media company Skydance and since then signed offers with a $7.7 billion deal for the rights for mixed Martial Arts tournament UFC. With this deal, Paramount is set to produce more exciting content, including the Call of Duty film.
