Introduction to Knight Rider

The creators of Cobra Kai, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, are taking on another iconic 1980s franchise, Knight Rider. Fresh from the success of the Karate Kid revival, they are in conversations to bring the beloved NBC drama to the big screen for Universal Pictures. The trio will produce and write the film, with Hurwitz and Schlossberg planning to direct.

Background on the Creators

After the success of Cobra Kai, the hit Netflix series about the later life of 1980s karate rivals Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, the trio has become specialists in reviving moribund properties. They are also working on a reboot of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. The Knight Rider film will also be produced by action expert David Leitch, who recently brought another cult TV series from the 1980s to the screen in the form of The Fall Guy.

What is Knight Rider About?

Knight Rider is a classic 1980s TV series created by Glen A. Larson. The show follows Michael Knight, a policeman who is shot in the face and left for dead. He is rescued by the FLAG (Foundation for Law and Government) organization and given a new identity through plastic surgery. Michael Knight works with an artificially intelligent supercar called KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a Pontiac Trans Am equipped with advanced crime-fighting technology and voiced by William Daniels.

The Storyline

The FLAG organization is initially led by billionaire Wilton Knight, who is killed in the pilot episode. Michael Knight and KITT then work for FLAG’s director, Devon Miles. They travel the highways of America, fighting against evil and doing good deeds. Some of their notable enemies include Wilton Knight’s evil son, Garthe, and the malignant supercar, KARR.

Bringing Knight Rider to the Big Screen

With the creators of Cobra Kai on board, the Knight Rider franchise is set to be revived for a new generation. The film will likely bring a fresh take to the classic series, while still maintaining the spirit of the original. Fans of the show will be excited to see how the characters and storylines are reimagined for the big screen. With the success of Cobra Kai and other reboots, it’s likely that Knight Rider will be a hit with both old and new fans alike.
