Introduction to a New Film

The Films Boutique has recently acquired the sales rights to Aleksandr Sokurov’s new film, Diary of the director, which is set to make its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. This premiere will take place on Thursday, August 28th, in the Palabiennale, outside of the competition.

Film Details

The documentary Diary of the director has a runtime of 305 minutes and is described by the film team as "a unique reading of the history of the second half of the 20th century". This Russian-language film is produced by Sokurov and Alena Sumakova, in collaboration with several other production companies, including the Intonation Foundation, Revolver, and Bielle.

Producer’s Background

Sokurov has a history of success, having won the Golden Lion in Venice in 2011 for his film Faust, which was also sold by Films Boutique. This background suggests that Diary of the director is in good hands, with a experienced and acclaimed producer at the helm.

Films Boutique’s Slate

Diary of the director is just one of several films that Films Boutique will be showcasing at the Venice Film Festival. Other titles include Silent friend, Strange river, and Malaga Street, as well as Agnieszka Holland’s Franz, which will premiere at the Toronto festival. According to Jean-Christophe Simon, CEO of Films Boutique, the company’s recent successes have given them the energy to pursue brave and innovative films, which can also be commercially successful and appeal to international audiences.

Outlook for the Film

With its unique perspective on the history of the 20th century and its experienced producer, Diary of the director is likely to generate significant interest at the Venice Film Festival. Films Boutique’s strong slate of films and their commitment to showcasing innovative and brave filmmaking suggest that Diary of the director is in good company, and that it will be a notable presence at the festival.
