Introduction to Tahora Ismaili

Tahora Ismaili, a 16-year-old athlete and refugee from Afghanistan, has an inspiring story of endurance and hope for women and girls in her home country. She is a Taekwondo athlete who has faced numerous challenges in her life.

Her Journey

Ismaili left her country at a young age and had to travel a long way, facing many difficult challenges on the way. Despite these obstacles, she has continued to pursue her passion for Taekwondo.

Competing Under the Refugee Flag

This year, Ismaili competed under the refugee flag at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia. For her, this was a significant moment, as it meant that she was "seen" and her "voice was heard".

Support and Guidance

Ehsan Naghibzadeh, a 35-year-old former Iranian national Taekwondo athlete who is also a refugee, has been a great support for Ismaili. As a trainer, he understands the important hurdles that refugee athletes face and has been helping Ismaili to overcome them.

A Role Model for Others

Ismaili strives to be a role model for others and to show them that with determination and hard work, they can achieve their goals. She just wants to "continue" doing what she loves and to inspire others to do the same. Her story is a testament to the power of endurance and hope, and she will continue to inspire women and girls in her home country and beyond.
