Son Heung-Min to Leave Tottenham Hotspur

Son Heung-Min, the 33-year-old South Korean captain of Tottenham Hotspur, has announced that he will be ending his 10-year spell with the Premier League soccer club this summer. Although Son has not disclosed his next destination, local British media speculate that he may join Major League Soccer Club Los Angeles FC.

Recent Performance and Decision

In May, Son led the team to its first trophy in 17 years, winning the Europa League over Manchester United. However, he suffered a number of leg injuries and had a relatively bad season compared to his previous performances. Despite this, winning the Europa League trophy played a significant role in his decision to leave the club.

Statement from Son Heung-Min

At a press conference, Son stated, "I decided to leave the team this summer." He seemed to hold back tears as he made the announcement, which took place one day before Spurs’ friendly game against Newcastle United in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. Son expressed his need for a new environment to push himself, saying, "I need a little change – 10 years are long." He also mentioned that the club helped him with the decision, and he is leaving as "an adult man, a very proud man."

Career with Tottenham Hotspur

Son moved from South Korea to Germany at the age of 16 to play in the Bundesliga before joining the Spurs in Great Britain. During his time with the Spurs, he played over 450 games and scored 173 goals for the British team. Son’s decision to leave the club comes after achieving everything he could with the team, including winning the Europa League. He stated, "I did my best in the field and on the field, and with winning the Europa League, I thought I had done everything I could and achieved."
