Korean Box Office Smash

Korean comedy thriller "My Daughter is a Zombie" has achieved the largest opening day at the Korean box office this year, with an impressive 430,000 viewers on its premiere on July 30th. This milestone surpasses the previous record held by Tom Cruise’s "Mission: Impossible – Final Billing", which drew 423,000 spectators on its opening day in South Korea.

Breaking Records

The film has not only exceeded the opening day approvals of "Mission: Impossible – Final Billing" but also surpassed the 2019 film "Extreme Job" to achieve the highest opening for a Korean comedy film in history. "Extreme Job" had 368,000 viewers on its opening day, making "My Daughter is a Zombie" the new benchmark for Korean comedy films.

The Storyline

The movie follows Jung-Hwan, an animal trainer, and his teenage daughter Lee Su A. After Su A is infected by a zombie virus that has swept the world, Jung-Hwan takes her to a quiet village by the sea, where his mother also lives. As society chases the infected, the family lives together secretly, with Jung-Hwan relying on his experience as a wild animal trainer to protect his daughter.

The Cast

The film boasts a talented cast, including Jo Jung-Suk, known for his roles in "Hospital Playlist", Lee Jung-Eun and Cho Yeo-Jeong from the award-winning film "Parasite", as well as Yoon Kyung-Ho and Choi Yoo-Ri.

A Promising Trajectory

The strong opening brings the film on a promising trajectory for a record-breaking cash run, with the opening day approvals significantly exceeding those of some of the most commercially successful films in Korea. This includes films like "Connect" (330,000), "12.12: The Day" (203,000), "Pilot" (373,000), and "Omniscient Reader" (122,000). With its impressive start, "My Daughter is a Zombie" is set to make a significant impact at the Korean box office.
