Update on AI171 Crash Compensation

On Saturday, July 26, Air India provided an update on its ongoing efforts to compensate the families and individuals affected by the tragic AI171 crash. The airline has been working to support those affected, with a focus on providing immediate financial assistance.

Preliminary Compensation Payments

Air India began paying preliminary compensation over a month ago, with each surviving family receiving 2.5 million rupees (approximately 106,000 DH) to address their immediate financial needs. This intermediate amount will be adjusted later to reflect the final compensation. So far, preliminary payments have been made to the families of 147 of the 229 passengers who lost their lives, as well as to the families of the 19 victims who died at the crash site.

Ongoing Compensation Efforts

Air India has also confirmed that the documentation for 52 other victims has been verified, and their families will receive payments shortly. The airline is committed to supporting those affected and is working to ensure that all families receive the compensation they need.

The AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust

In addition to the preliminary compensation payments, the Tata Group has established "The AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust" to further honor the memory of the victims. The trust has promised an ex-gratia payment of 10 million rupees (approximately 424,000 DH) for each deceased victim. The trust will also contribute to the reconstruction of the infrastructure of the BJ Medical College hostel, which was damaged in the accident.

Support for First Responders and Affected Individuals

The efforts of the trust extend to supporting first aiders, members of the health professions, disaster relief workers, social workers, and government staff who provided critical services after the accident. The trust aims to help reduce the trauma and hardship faced by these individuals.

Air India’s Commitment to Supporting Affected Families

Air India has expressed its deepest condolences to the families concerned and has confirmed its commitment to supporting those affected during this difficult time. The airline recognizes that this is a developing situation and will provide further updates as new information becomes available.
