Sharjah Airport Sees 10% Increase in Passengers

Sharjah Airport announced that it received 9.11 million passengers in the first half of 2025, compared to 8.313 million in the same period of the previous year, which corresponds to an increase of 10 percent.

Positive Results and Future Growth

The positive results are attributed to continued investments aimed at meeting the expectations of all passengers in cooperation with various strategic partners. The growth trend is expected to continue in the upcoming period, especially with ongoing expansion projects, which should increase the airport’s capacity to 25 million passengers by the end of 2027.

Development Plans and Infrastructure

Sharjah Airport continues to support Sharjah’s efforts to be a preferred destination for trips, tourism, and business. The airport’s development plans focus on improving infrastructure and introducing smart services, leveraging the latest technologies and sustainable practices to contribute to sustainable development and investment growth in the United Arab Emirates and the wider region.

Increased Capacity and Air Traffic

With the growth of air traffic, Sharjah Airport has expanded its capacity to meet the increasing demand. The airport authority aims to position the emirate’s airport among the region’s top five airports. In June, it was announced that over 800,000 passengers would travel through the airport from July 1 to 15, 2025.

New Flights and Airlines

The airport recently announced the resumption of direct flights to Damascus, the Syrian capital, operated by Air Arabia. This route will operate twice a day and marks the return of this vital connection after a one-year suspension. Additionally, Ethiopian Airlines became the latest airline to operate from Sharjah Airport, reflecting the emirate’s rising status on the regional and international aviation map.

Aircraft Movements and Freight Handling

During the first half of 2025, aircraft movements increased by 4.3 percent to 54,953 compared to 52,695 movements in the same period last year. Freight handling recorded a record growth of 6.36 percent, with total volumes reaching 102,427 tons.
