Box Office Success

It was "Up, Up and Away" for James Gunn’s "Superman" reboot, which took number 1 at the box office with an opening weekend of 122 million US dollars. Warner Bros. Pictures’s youngest blockbuster defeated the early estimates of around 90 million US dollars for the weekend and last weekend "Jurassic World Rebirth", which achieved 40 million US dollars this weekend.

Comparison with Previous Films

Warner Bros. Discovery is the parent company of CNN. "Superman is on the Mount Rushmore of superheroes. All eyes were in this film," Paul Dergarabedian, Senior Media Analyst at Comscore. "So, this is the gift that hopefully will continue to give DC Studios." The films of DC Studios were historically less popular than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2017, DC’s “Justice League” achieved 229 million US dollars in Germany, while Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” brought in Germany domestically in Germany.

Superhero Fatigue

Marvel films have not been so popular with the audience in recent years, which some experts attribute to “superhero -fatigue”. Dergarabedian said that the performance of "Superman" means "We can bring it to bed" because "it all about the individual film". According to Comscore, blockbuster hits have increased the summer mass by 16% compared to the same time of the previous year in recent months.

Summer Box Office

According to COMSCore data, the overall fund occupies 5 billion US dollars for all 2025 and summer profits of around 2.35 billion dollars. Shawn Robbins, director of analysis at Fandango and founder and owner of the cash theory, said that it was still possible to reach a summer of $ 4 billion, but the box office can be held back from June explorers. Disney’s "Elio", for example, opened only 20 million US dollars despite positive reviews. Large like "Superman" can help close the gap.

Impact of Big Films

"This is the type of treasury nowadays. We see so much firm or famine that it only takes a film to exceed the expectation," said Robbins. "This summer, wealth is spreading in so many films," he said. "Superman" is the third film that over a three-day opening this year more than $ 100 million gross. The first film was Warner Bros. Pictures’ "A Minecraft Movie" in April and Disney’s "Lilo & Stitch" in May.

Upcoming Films

"Superman" is not the last superhero film of the summer. The next big blockbuster will probably be Disney’s "Fantastic Four", which will open on July 25th. Robbins believes that Disney’s "Freakier Friday", the continuation of the publication of Disney’s "Freaky Friday" 2003, could be a breakout in August. Hollywood is ultimately dependent on big hits in July, so it is important that "Fantastic Four" and "Superman" do well, said Robbins.
