Dakota Johnson Steals the Show at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

Dakota Johnson, known for her roles in Fifty Shades, Black Mass, and Suspiria, made a stunning appearance at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) on Saturday. The Hollywood star was showered with enthusiastic applause and love as she attended a screening of one of her latest films, receiving a prestigious award from the Czech festival.

A Night to Remember in the Spa City

The streets of Karlovy Vary were buzzing with activity on a warm summer evening, with people flocking to film screenings, concerts, and outdoor restaurants and bars. The 59th edition of the festival was in full swing, and Johnson’s presence only added to the excitement.

Receiving the Presidential Award

Johnson took to the stage at the Brutalist Hotel Thermal to receive the KVIFF presidential award, just before a screening of her new film Materialist. The audience erupted into applause as she accepted the award, with many taking photos and videos to capture the moment. Materialist was written and directed by Celine Song and also stars Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans.

A Heartfelt Thank-You Speech

Johnson thanked the audience in Czech, which delighted the crowd, and praised Song as "probably the best filmmaker of our time." Her short speech was met with another round of applause, and she left the stage to watch the screening of Materialist amidst cheers and claps from the enthusiastic audience.

Presenting Multiple Films

Johnson not only presented Materialist but also showcased the romantic comedy Splitsville, which she produced under her Teatime Banner. The film, directed by Michael Angelo Covino, was launched in 2019 in partnership with her producing partner Ro Donnelly.

Inspiring Films about Love

When asked about her films, Johnson said, "I hope these are films that spark the fire and mind of people about love and how we treat ourselves and what we want for ourselves." Her goal is to create films that inspire and make a lasting impact on viewers.

Future Projects and Ambitions

Earlier in the festival, Johnson shared her plans to direct her first feature film, which will continue to tell female stories through her production company. She emphasized the importance of avoiding "toxic sets" and measuring the success of films by their impact on viewers rather than box office numbers. Johnson also expressed her desire to play a psychopath in a future role.

Gratitude and Appreciation

The star thanked the festival organizers for the invitation, saying, "It looks like Disneyland. It’s crazy here. It’s so nice… And I just couldn’t feel more grateful." The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival runs until July 12th, with Johnson’s appearance being a highlight of the event.
