Introduction to Truth Social

In 2021, a new social network called "Truth Social" was launched by former US President Donald Trump via his media and technological group "TMTG". This platform was not just another addition to the digital space, but a response to the decision of social media giants to ban Trump’s accounts on "Twitter", "Facebook", and "Instagram" following the Capitol storms in January 2021.

The Platform’s User Base

Studies have shown that the majority of prominent users on "Truth Social" tend to be conservative and express support for Trump. An analysis by the Pew Research Center found that about 49% of the most well-known accounts on the platform identify as conservative, which is the highest percentage among all alternative platforms. Additionally, 44% of these accounts emphasize a religious identity, and 43% promote strong nationalistic slogans or messages committed to America. The majority of users are between the ages of 45 and 65, indicating a clear tendency towards a conservative and relatively older audience.

Spread of Misinformation

A journalist from the French website "Usbek & Rica" spent 10 days on the platform and found that it is a fertile environment for spreading misleading information and conspiracy theories. Reports on election falsification, allegations of "gangs" leading the state behind the curtain, and ideas derived from the right-wing "QAnon" movement are common on the platform. The lack of strict censorship or fact-checking has made "Truth Social" a breeding ground for this type of news and political propaganda.

Limited Growth

The available statistics up to mid-2025 show a mixed image of the platform’s performance. As of March 2024, "Truth Social" has around 9 million registered accounts with an active user base of around 5 million users. Although these numbers indicate a presence, they are limited compared to the hundreds of millions of users on larger competitive platforms. The number of monthly visitors has also decreased by half in one year, stabilizing at around 500,000 visitors per month.

Challenges and Weaknesses

The points of strength and weakness of the platform are also in the nature of its target group. While Trump’s supporters and conservative activists are loyal, it is difficult for the platform to expand beyond this "solid core" and reach wider user groups. This political and demographic restriction creates a realistic upper limit for growth and raises questions about the platform’s long-term strategy.

Financial Difficulties

The financial situation of "Truth Social" is dire. The platform has not achieved profitability since its founding and has accumulated losses that threaten its future. The financial numbers for the second quarter of 2024 are pessimistic, with a turnover of only $837,000, compared to a loss of $16.4 million. The platform’s total income for the first nine months of 2023 was $3.3 million, which is low compared to $49 million in expenditure. This imbalance between income and expenditure shows an unsustainable economic model that relies heavily on constant financial pumping from shareholders.

New Initiatives

In an attempt to overcome its crisis, "Truth Social" is trying to diversify its income sources. The platform’s group has started a new broadcasting service called "Truth+", which aims to deliver visible and audio content to the conservative audience, similar to the "Fox News" model, with a focus on "family-friendly" programs of Christian nature. However, these new initiatives face serious challenges, including intense competition with media giants like "Netflix" and "Disney+", as well as legal and auditory risks associated with controversial content.

Future Prospects

After a 4-year challenge, "Truth Social" is at a crucial intersection between its ambition to break the monopoly of technology giants and the difficult reality of the digital market. The question arises: will the platform be able to find a formula for sustainable success, or will it only be an ambitious experience that collided with market laws? The success of the platform remains strongly dependent on the popularity of its founder, which is vulnerable to fluctuations in the political and judicial situation around Trump.
