Introduction to Zilch

Zilch, a consumer rental company, has become one of the fastest-growing fintech companies in Great Britain. The company has started a search for international takeover targets as it accelerates its expansion before listing on the stock market.

Expansion and Growth

Zilch, operated by co-founder Philip Belamant, is working with consultants to identify potential targets outside of Great Britain for acquisition in the coming months. The company has accumulated a customer base of over five million people and is now one of the most valuable fintechs in Great Britain.

Financial Performance

Zilch has achieved over £750 million in interest and fees for customers since its introduction. The payments via its platform have a gross goods value of over £4 billion. The company has an annual turnover of over £150 million, placing it well to achieve competitors who are seeking additional capital or listing on public markets.

Investors and Funding

Zilch has explored its own sale for private shares to increase financing, with Citi working on the mandate. The company was last valued at around £1.5 billion. Other Zilch investors include Goldman Sachs and Ventura Capital. Zilch has collected £500 million in equity and debt since its founding.

Services and Regulation

Zilch secured approval from the City watchdog in 2020 and now offers customers a digital debit Visa card with up to 5% of expenses for rewards. Customers can also switch to a credit card, allowing them to spread repayments without interest over six or three months, helping them build their credit score. The company is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, differentiating it from other "buy now, pay later" companies.

Future Plans

Zilch is considering a public market debut at a highly competitive price for stock exchanges in London, New York, and elsewhere. The company’s CEO has been involved in discussions with regulators and policymakers about reforms to the London listing regime, amid growing concerns about the relative attractiveness of British public markets.
