Introduction to Splitsville

Follow your current love triangle on the screen in A24’s Materialist, as Dakota Johnson increases the use with her next romantic comedy. On Monday, Neon released the first trailer for co-author, director, and star Michael Angelo Covino’s Splitsville. This sees him and Johnson as a couple in an open marriage that swings with their two friends, through their own wives.

The Plot of Splitsville

After Ashley, played by Adria Arjona, asks about a divorce, Carey, played by Kyle Marvin, runs to his friends, Julie, played by Johnson, and Paul, played by Covino, for support. He is shocked to discover that the secret of her happiness is an open marriage, that is, until Carey crosses the border and throws all of their relationships into chaos.

Release and Reception

Covino and Marvin wrote Splitsville, which will premiere on August 22nd in cinemas, also starring Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, OT Fagbenle, and Charlie Gillespie. After the Cannes premiere of the film last month, when it earned eight-minute ovations, Covino explained that they wanted to explore "characters who found out more than they did."

Behind the Scenes

Marvin added: "I think many of us and our friends talked about the dynamics of relationships, and we were often a little about how we felt, or how well we felt in certain things, and I think this kind of unpacking this idea happened if they only felt visceral, and I felt like that." The film promises to bring a fresh perspective on love, relationships, and the complexities that come with them.

Related Stories

Other romantic comedies have also explored the theme of open marriages and complex relationships. These films often spark important conversations about love, trust, and communication in relationships. As the release of Splitsville approaches, fans of the genre are eagerly anticipating the film’s take on these universal themes.
