Introduction to Suga’s Military Service

Suga, the last member of the K-Pop group BTS to complete his mandatory military service with the South Korean army, was released on Saturday, paving the way for the reunification of the band. He began his service in 2023, and his release follows that of fellow BTS members Jimin and Jung Kook, who were also discharged from their tasks at the beginning of this month.

Completion of Military Service

Suga effectively completed his alternative service on June 18 with his remaining vacation. He fulfilled his military duty as a social representative. Unlike other members, Suga’s dismissal was not celebrated publicly due to overcrowding.

Message to Fans

After his release from National Service, Suga published a message on the fan community platform Weverse. He expressed his gratitude to the fans, stating, "Above all, I wanted to … thank our fans who were waiting for me all the time." He also addressed the disappointment and concerns about the events of the previous year, offering an apology to his bandmates.

Past Incident

Last year, Suga was involved in a court case for drunken driving on an electric scooter and was fined 15 million WON (approximately €11,500 or $9,978).

Anticipation of BTS Comeback

The discharge of Suga fills fans with anticipation of a comeback of the most famous band in South Korea, which has been on a "break" since 2022. The band’s members have been carrying out their mandatory military service amidst growing tensions with North Korea.

Economic Impact and Future Plans

Before their "break," BTS achieved over 5.5 trillion WON (around $4 billion) in annual economic effects, according to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. The band is expected to organize its largest world tour in 2026. Details of their reunification are still pending release.
