Box Office Update
The Live Action Blockbuster is set to top the box office for the third time in a row, with an estimated $33 million from 4,185 theaters. By Sunday, the film’s domestic total is expected to reach $336 million, with a worldwide total of $650 million.
Ballerina Takes Second Place
The first John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, is expected to take second place with a soft opening of $25-27 million from 3,409 theaters. Ana de Armas stars in the title role, with Keanu Reeves also making an appearance. Despite initial projections of $35 million, the film’s opening has been reduced due to competition from other action movies.
A Promising Start
Although Ballerina’s opening is softer than expected, the film has received an A- CinemaScore and a strong audience response, with a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This suggests that the film could have long legs and perform well in the coming weeks.
Production and Cast
Ballerina is set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and follows Eva Macarro (De Armas) as she begins her training as a Ruska Roma assassin. The film also stars Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, and Norman Reedus, with Ian McShane and Reeves making appearances.
Other Movies at the Box Office
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is expected to take third place with an estimated $15 million from 3,456 locations, bringing its domestic total to $145.9 million and its worldwide total to over $400 million. Karate Kid: Legend Continues is expected to drop 57% to $8.7 million from 3,859 locations, bringing its domestic total to $35.4 million.
