Introduction to Digital NHS

Appointments, invitations to health demonstrations and test results are now received by patients on their phones. The government says that the move to a digitally oriented NHS means that the healthcare system must send 50 million fewer letters to save an estimated 200 million pounds in the next three years.

The NHS App

Instead, millions of people are notified as part of the new plans for appointments and other important messages about the NHS app on your phone or digital device. The app becomes communication with people for the NHS. The changes are invested by more than 50 million GBP. This year, 270 million messages will be sent via the app, an increase of around 70 million in the last financial year.

Modernization of the NHS

The health secretary said that the NHS was in the mud when it came to everyday technology that people use to organize their lives. The modernization of the NHS will also lead to less missed appointments and therefore save money. In 2023/24 there were around eight million missed appointments in election care and almost each of three people missed a screening date.

Benefits of the NHS App

Around 20 million people have currently decided to get messages from the NHS app. The app will make the NHS more convenient and give the patient more control while saving money. The health secretary said that the funds saved could then be invested in the health service again to strengthen things like Frontline Care.

Accessibility and User Experience

The health secretary said that he would book his dates via the app, which will expose telephone lines for those without smartphones. He added that stronger use of the app received more selection in "How they want to organize their care". The cabinet minister also compared himself brave and said that he wishes that the NHS app is as pleasant as the use of streaming giant Netflix.

Future Developments

Other functions in the pipeline – although not yet available – include the option of adding appointments to the telephone calendar and requesting help from local GPS in the app. The NHS will leave the "analog age" behind. The use of the NHS app should be "as happy as Netflix". The NHS app actually has more subscribers than Netflix. It would be a really wonderful thing if the use of the NHS app – if not as happy – feels almost as happy as the use of Netflix.
