Historic Moment at the Film Festival

The Film Festival made history this evening with the debut of Amélie Bonnin’s romantic dramedy, Run a day (Partir and Jour), marking the first time the event has opened with a debut film. The crowd gave the film a standing ovation, applauding for over five minutes.

The Film’s Plot

Run a day is based on Bonnin’s short film, which won the 2023 César award. The romantic musical follows Cécile, a rising chef played by Juliette Armanet, who dreams of opening her own gourmet restaurant in Paris. However, her plans are put on hold when her father suffers a heart attack, and she is forced to return to her small hometown.

A Chance Encounter

In her hometown, Cécile reconnects with Raphaël, a childhood friend played by Bastien Bouillon. This unexpected meeting leads Cécile to question her past decisions and the current direction of her life. As she navigates her feelings and ambitions, Cécile must decide what she truly wants to achieve in life.

The Cast and Crew

Juliette Armanet, one of France’s most popular contemporary singers, stars in the film. She gained international recognition last summer with her performance of John Lennon’s "Imagine" at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The film was written by Amélie Bonnin and Dimitri Lucas and produced by topshot films and Les films you worsy, in co-production with Pathé and France 3 Cinéma.

Production and Release

Pathé International is handling world sales, while Pathé films has acquired the French rights. The film was released in France simultaneously with its world premiere at the festival, following the Cannes Protocol.

The Festival

The premiere of Run a day was preceded by an opening ceremony, where Robert de Niro gave a passionate speech advocating for democracy and the arts. The ceremony also addressed the impact of proposed film tariffs and funding cuts on the industry. The festival continues to celebrate the best of cinema, with Run a day making a memorable debut.
