Color analysis is experiencing a revival, but many conversations are often about teenagers finding their “seasons” or new parents rediscovering their style. However, does the process work differently later in life? Does age change the outcome and is there a “right” time for it?

The Role of Age in Color Analysis

According to color analyst Michelle Marks, age largely doesn’t play a role in color analysis. “It doesn’t matter what age you do it,” she says, “you just get better at putting colors together and knowing what suits you.” More importantly, the palette itself doesn’t change. "Your color palette will never change as you age. You may wear different colors from your palette as your skin thins, but you will always have the same palette. It will complement your hair no matter what – whether you’re going gray or white – you’ll have the same season as you did when you were 20."

How Color Analysis Works

A color analysis session begins by determining if the individual is warm or cool. From then on, the contrast determines the season. "So winter is bright and sharp and very high contrast, and the edges are really crisp and distinct, and then summer is much softer, more tonal and blended.
