Introduction to Meta’s AI Advancements

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has made significant strides in advancing its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The company has announced three major deals to support its Prometheus AI data center, currently under construction in New Albany, Ohio. These deals will provide the necessary energy to power the data center, which is expected to go online this year.

Partnerships for Nuclear Energy

Meta has partnered with TerraPower, Oklo, and Vistra to secure nuclear energy for its Prometheus AI data center. The financial terms of these deals have not been disclosed. However, it is reported that these contracts will support up to 6.6 gigawatts of new and existing clean energy by 2035. This is equivalent to powering approximately 5 million homes.

Benefits of the Partnerships

The partnerships with TerraPower, Oklo, and Vistra will not only provide reliable and stable power to the electric grid but also strengthen America’s nuclear supply chain. Additionally, these projects will support new and existing jobs in the construction and operation of power plants.

Details of the Partnerships

The agreement with TerraPower will provide funds to support the development of two new sodium units, capable of generating up to 690 megawatts of power. Meta has also secured rights to energy from up to six additional sodium units, which will be delivered by 2035. Furthermore, Meta will purchase over 2.1 gigawatts of energy from two operating Vistra nuclear power plants in Ohio, as well as energy from expansions of these plants and a third plant in Pennsylvania.

Oklo Partnership

The deal with Oklo will help develop a 1.2 gigawatt power campus in Pike County, Ohio, to support Meta’s data centers in the region. Oklo’s largest investors include OpenAI’s Sam Altman, highlighting the significance of this partnership in advancing AI capabilities.

Previous Announcements

These nuclear power deals follow Meta’s announcement in June of a 20-year contract with Constellation Energy to secure power supply at its nuclear power plant in Clinton, Illinois. This demonstrates Meta’s commitment to investing in clean energy and reducing its carbon footprint.

Conclusion

Meta’s partnerships with TerraPower, Oklo, and Vistra mark a significant step forward in the company’s AI advancements. The provision of reliable and clean energy will support the growth of Meta’s data centers, enabling the company to continue developing and improving its AI capabilities.
