Met Gala 2025 Co-Chairs Announced

The Met Gala has announced its co-chairs for the 2025 event, including Beyoncé, Venus Williams, and Nicole Kidman. Vogue’s Anna Wintour will host fashion’s biggest night next May. Williams’ role marks her first time as co-chair, seven years after her sister Serena held the position. Beyoncé was honorary chair in 2013, Kidman was co-chair in 2003 and 2005.

Gala Hosting Committee

A gala hosting committee was also announced, which will be chaired by designer Anthony Vaccarello and filmmaker Zoë Kravitz. The committee includes musicians Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, LISA, Sam Smith, and Yseult; dancer Misty Copeland; actors Teyana Taylor, Elizabeth Debicki, Gwendoline Christie, and Lena Dunham; basketball player A’ja Wilson; models Alex Consani, Paloma Elsesser, and Lauren Wasser; Vogue editor Chloe Malle; and artist Anna Weyant.

Exhibition Theme and Dress Code

The dress code for the May 4 gala is yet to be announced, but will be based on the theme of “Costume Art,” which was unveiled last month as the institute’s next spring exhibition. This exhibition aims to celebrate the “clothed body” in art throughout the centuries by combining garments with objects from across the museum to demonstrate fashion’s long intertwinement with various art forms.

Exhibition Details

Led by Andrew Bolton, the institute’s executive curator, the exhibition will be thematically organized around different body types, including the "naked body," the "classic body," and less traditional themes such as the "pregnant body" and the "aging body." Max Hollein, the museum’s CEO and director, remarked that the exhibition will come to life in the museum in a fascinating way, drawing on all areas of the collection.

New Gallery Space

A new, spacious gallery space will also be opened with the “Costume Art” exhibition. The 1,115 square meter (12,000 square foot) Conde M. Nast Galleries, located next to the museum’s Great Hall, will provide a prominent platform for fashion and help control crowds at busy exhibitions. This new area, converted from the museum’s former retail store, will host all of the Costume Institute’s exhibitions and other exhibits in the spring.

Exhibition Schedule

The Costume Art exhibition opens to the public on May 10, 2026, and runs through January 10, 2027. Andrew Bolton explained that the new gallery space will “mark a defining moment for the department, recognizing the crucial role that fashion plays not only in art history but also in contemporary culture.”
