Starbucks Brings Back Viral Bearista Trophy
Starbucks is giving its fans another chance to win the viral Bearista trophy. The coffee giant teased in an Instagram post that customers could grab the popular cold cup on Monday, December 8, but didn’t provide many details.
The Announcement
"Your chance is in the Starbucks app. Tomorrow, 12/8," the chain said in the caption of the video posted on Sunday, December 7. No further information about the Cup will be available on the Starbucks app until December 8th at 9:30 a.m. ET.
Customer Reaction
While fans expressed their excitement over the return of the trophy in the comments section, many were frustrated about the lack of information as well as the fact that nothing has been added to the app. "Has anyone checked the app because I don’t see anything yet," one person wrote with a crying emoji. "So… we’re still waiting," another commented. “The context would be nice,” someone snorted. "FIX YOUR APP!!!!! IT’S NOT WORKING," one user shouted.
The Bearista Cold Cup
The viral Starbucks Bearista Glass Cold Cup is a 20-ounce container shaped like a teddy bear wearing a green Starbucks knit hat and costs $29.95. It’s currently unclear if Starbucks is simply restocking the Bearista Cold Cup or if it’s part of a larger promotion, such as a prize for the Starbucks for Life Merrython, which Rewards members can play starting December 8th.
Availability and Resale
17,000 Bearista cups will be up for grabs as part of the Starbucks Rewards Instant Win promotion, limited to one per person. The limited edition trophy has also appeared on resale sites, with prices ranging from $28 to $94,000. Copycat cups have also popped up on Amazon and Walmart that cost about a third of the price of Starbucks.
Previous Shortage and Apology
After fans began expressing their disappointment over the festive fiasco, Starbucks was forced to publicly apologize for the delivery shortage. “The enthusiasm for our merchandise exceeded even our greatest expectations,” a spokesperson said. “Although more Bearista mugs were delivered to coffee shops than almost any other merchandise this holiday season, the Bearista mug and several other items sold out quickly.” They added: “We know many customers were delighted with the Bearista Cup and apologize for any disappointment this has caused.”
