Recall of Mixed Nuts Due to Salmonella Contamination
An Ohio-based company is recalling mixed nuts sold at Wegmans in nine states because they may be contaminated with salmonella, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The affected products were sold in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC between November 3 and December 1.
Cause of Contamination
The problem came to light after routine testing by the supplier revealed that a batch of raw pistachios tested positive for salmonella, a bacterial illness that can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In some cases, salmonella can cause serious illnesses such as arthritis, while in others it can be fatal.
Recalled Products
Both items were made by Mellace Family Brands California, based in Warren, Ohio. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products.
Consumers who purchased the mixed nuts at Wegmans can return them to the store’s service counter for a full refund.
