Introduction to Bianca Censori
Take a quick look at Bianca Censori’s Instagram account and you might think it belonged to another woman entirely. Petite, brunette and with striking doll-like features, the 30-year-old Australian model bears such a striking resemblance to Kim Kardashian that it makes you want to ask her to double-check that she’s actually a different person. The similarity between the two women has been part of the cultural discourse since Censori started dating her now-husband Kanye West, who was previously married to Kardashian for seven years.
Public Appearance and Outrage
Since then, the couple has been a lightning rod for online outrage, largely thanks to Censori’s numerous barely-there outfits — there was the pillow she wore to cover her breasts, the sheer poncho she wore with nothing underneath, and in February, at the Grammys, there was the skin-tight, completely see-through dress that left her appearing virtually completely naked on the red carpet. Much of this has raised concerns, not least because Censori almost never speaks in public. Is she happy and safe? Are their wild outfits part of a control plan hatched by West? Is he trying to turn her into a Kardashian clone?
Launch of Lingerie Brand
We’ll probably never know. But this week the conversation took a different turn when Censori announced the launch of her upcoming lingerie brand on Instagram. Not only was she suddenly more covered up than we’ve seen her in years, but if the photos are to be believed, she’s now starring for Kim’s wildly successful lingerie and shapewear brand SKIMS. On Sunday, Censori posted six photos of herself posing in various lingerie sets, consisting of tights, panties and maternity-style bras that look like full coverage.
Comparison with SKIMS
Since launching SKIMS in 2018, Kardashian has become synonymous with the rising bodywear-as-outerwear trend. The brand has been hugely successful, achieving a $4bn valuation earlier this year, and has a range of high-profile celebrities, from Sabrina Carpenter to Kate Moss, fronting its campaigns. If Censori really launches a label whose standout products are based on lingerie, it’s almost impossible not to see it as a land grab. But who is behind it? Could it be just another attempt by West to compete with his ex-wife like everything else Censori seems to do?
The Lingerie Trend
At least the bras themselves are significantly different from the ones SKIMS sells. With full coverage and vintage-look satin torpedo designs, you’ll think Madonna meets breastfeeding. It’s hardly the kind of garment you’d expect from Censori, considering she’s mostly worn sheer, non-existent outfits in the past. The style group has already agreed that these bras are not intended to be worn under clothing. They are leaders themselves. Like crop tops, except they are cut a little shorter. The same applies to the tights, which Censori previously wore without any underwear. This takes up the trend of investing in outstanding lingerie.
Statement Bras
No longer limited to their practical roots, bras have, in recent months, become a wardrobe staple that is meant to be flaunted rather than hidden. British fashion declared bras the “unexpected styling hero of 2025,” citing references such as Doechii wearing a silk bra and miniskirt by Vivienne Westwood to a Glastonbury appearance. Charli XCX also performed in a custom McQueen bra. Then there’s Addison Rae, who stepped out at The Box in Soho over the summer in a yellow wavy bra and matching panties from Agent Provocateur.
Competition in the Market
As for the other names making waves with their statement bras, Censori is competing with giants like Dolce & Gabbana and Miu Miu, whose satin cone bra went viral over the summer. And yes, it would also be competing with SKIMS, which makes every type of bra you can imagine, including full-coverage bras not entirely dissimilar to the ones Censori was photographed in. So will Censori become the next big bodywear billionaire? Was this all part of a calculated ruse for West to get his final revenge? We’ll have to wait until December 11th to find out.
