New Movie Releases
This weekend, Universal is releasing two of its biggest new titles in the UK and Ireland: Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie and Black Phone 2.
Family-Friendly Fun
Gabby’s Dollhouse is leading the way in 605 locations. The film is based on the animated Netflix series about a young girl and her cat friends. The live-action movie features actors like Gloria Estefan and Kristen Wiig.
Horror Sequel
Universal is also opening the horror sequel Black Phone 2 in 560 cinemas. Ethan Hawke returns as a masked killer who begins stalking the sister of a previous victim. The original Black Phone opened in summer 2022 with a strong start.
Other Notable Releases
Paramount is releasing the comedy-drama Dachmann at 540 locations. The film, directed by Derek Cianfrance and starring Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst, is based on the true story of a criminal who escapes from prison and hides in a toy store.
US Comedy
Lionsgate is opening the US comedy Good Luck at 462 locations. Aziz Ansari stars alongside Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves in a story about an incompetent angel who swaps the lives of a gig worker and a wealthy venture capitalist.
International Films
Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt launches via Sony at 345 venues. The social drama stars Andrew Garfield, Julia Roberts, and Ayo Ediberi, and follows a college professor caught in the middle when her star student accuses her colleague of sexual assault.
Classic Films and Restorations
Park Circus is re-releasing the 2005 supernatural action film Constantine at 274 locations. Curzon is showing the 1975 classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at 25 locations, while Elysian Film Group has a 4K restoration of the 1997 anime Princess Mononoke at 45 locations.
Event Cinema and Award-Worthy Films
Trafalgar Releasing is bringing The Sonnambul – Met 2025 to 100 venues starting Saturday, October 18. The award-winning Cannes drama Souleymane’s Story will be released in 23 cinemas via Conic Film. Netflix is releasing Frankenstein and A Ballad of a Little Player in cinemas for an awards-worthy run. Additionally, Miracle Comms and Dazzler are bringing the British comedy Sunlight, written and directed by comedian Nina Conti, to the market.
