Introduction to Neue Visionen Plus
Neue Visionen, a leading German arthouse distributor, has launched its own streaming service called Neue Visionen Plus (NVP). The service, which is only available to subscribers living in Germany, aims to provide a unique platform for film enthusiasts to access a wide range of arthouse, crossover, and documentary titles.
Initial Offerings and Future Titles
NVP starts with the French comedy "The Brass Band" by Emmanuel Courcol as its first new title. Other exclusive titles that will be added to the service include Mascha Schilinski’s German Oscar entry "Sound of Falling" and Lea Todorov’s social drama "Mary Montessori". The service has also acquired the catalog of the previous VOD channel Good Movies, which includes 500 arthouse, crossover, and documentary titles.
Ownership and Subscription Model
Neue Visionen owns a majority stake in NVP, with Piffl Medien holding a 10% stake. The service is available to subscribers for a monthly fee of €4. New Visionen will continue to work with independent arthouse distributors to offer their future titles on the new platform, and NVP will also be open to third-party rights holders.
Motivation Behind the Launch
According to Torsten Frehse, co-managing director of Neue Vision, the motivation behind launching NVP was to expand the Neue Visionen brand and establish more direct communication with the audience. With the decline of social media platforms, the company saw an opportunity to create a streaming service that would allow them to connect with film enthusiasts in a more personal way.
Unique Features of NVP
NVP will not only offer a curated film program but also provide additional film-related content, including infotainment. The service will feature a magazine program called "In the Realm of Images", which will explore the history of cinema and the latest developments in the film world. Other programs, such as "Compass" and "SKIP", will provide film reviews and family entertainment, respectively.
Exclusive Content
NVP has partnered with film critic and filmmaker Rüdiger Suchsland to create exclusive content, including a program that explores the cinema of Werner Herzog and an interpretation of Mascha Schilinski’s film "Sound of Falling". The service has also produced a family entertainment series called "SKIP", which was created by children’s best-selling author Kai Lüftner and produced by Neue Visionen’s in-house production facility Zentral Studios.
