Introduction to Sia’s Divorce Case
Australian singer Sia’s estranged husband, Daniel Bernard, has requested a substantial amount of money in monthly spousal support. According to US court documents, Bernard is asking for over $250,000 per month. Sia, known for her hit songs, filed for divorce from Bernard in March, citing "irreconcilable differences."
Background on Sia and Bernard’s Marriage
Sia, whose full name is Sia Furler, married Bernard in December 2022. The couple has an 18-month-old son together. Bernard, a former doctor, claims that he was financially dependent on Sia during their marriage. He quit his job to run a short-lived medical business with Sia, which ultimately did not work out.
Bernard’s Request for Spousal Support
In court documents, Bernard stated that he needs the monthly allowance to maintain the "luxurious upper-class lifestyle" he enjoyed during the marriage. The couple had over $400,000 in monthly expenses, which included private jets, vacations, fine dining, and several full-time employees. Bernard said that they never had to monitor their living expenses during their time together.
Reasons Behind Bernard’s Request
Bernard, 47, said that the interim support order he was seeking was "necessary" because Sia, 49, was "the breadwinner of our marriage." As a former radiation oncologist, Bernard would need to complete several years of training and pass rigorous exams before he could renew his certification and practice again. This would make it difficult for him to support himself financially in the short term.
Additional Requests from Bernard
In addition to the monthly spousal support, Bernard has also requested extra payments to cover his legal fees and forensic accounting. Sia’s agents have been contacted for comment on the matter, but so far, there has been no response. The outcome of this case will depend on the court’s decision regarding Bernard’s requests for support and other expenses.
