Sundance Institute Partners with Rolex
The Sundance Institute has announced a new partnership with Rolex, a renowned watchmaker, to support its feature film program. As part of this multi-year partnership, Rolex will provide direct financial support and grants to Sundance’s startup initiative.
About the Partnership
Rolex will serve as an official partner and “exclusive timekeeper” of the program, which includes Sundance’s groundbreaking director and screenwriter labs. These labs have helped launch the careers of notable filmmakers such as Ryan Coogler, Chloé Zhao, and Taika Waititi.
Supported Programs
The partnership will cover various programs, including Sundance’s year-round career and professional development programs for emerging filmmakers and project funding. This support will enable the Sundance Institute to continue empowering a new generation of independent filmmakers to bring bold, original works to life.
Statement from Sundance Institute
Michelle Satter of the Sundance Institute expressed her gratitude towards Rolex, stating, “We are honored to carry on the mission and inspiring vision of our founder Robert Redford, who, through the creation of the Sundance Institute, redefined cinema and provided a breeding ground for independent storytellers to develop their projects.” She also added, "We are incredibly grateful to Rolex for partnering with us to elevate artists and their stories. Their essential support enables us to continue empowering a new generation of independent filmmakers."
Rolex’s Perpetual Arts Initiative
Rolex’s support comes through the brand’s Perpetual Arts Initiative, which also supports the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Film at Lincoln Center. This initiative demonstrates Rolex’s commitment to promoting arts and culture.
Upcoming Festival
The news of the partnership comes as Sundance prepares for the festival’s final year in Park City, Utah, which will run January 22-February 1. The program aims to celebrate the legacy of the festival and its founder, the late Robert Redford. With Rolex’s support, the Sundance Institute is poised to continue its mission of supporting independent filmmakers and promoting innovative storytelling.
