Tony Caunter: A Legendary Actor Passes Away

Introduction to Tony Caunter

Tony Caunter, a renowned British actor, has sadly passed away at the age of 88. He was best known for his role as Roy Evans in the popular British soap opera, EastEnders. Caunter played a car dealer who had a keen interest in Pat Butcher, a character played by Pam St Clement.

Career Highlights

During his time on EastEnders, which spanned from 1994 to 2003, Caunter’s character was involved in several notable storylines. One of the most memorable was Pat’s affair with her ex-husband, Frank Butcher, played by Mike Reid. Additionally, his on-screen son, Barry Evans, played by Shaun Williamson, was dramatically pushed off a cliff in one episode.

Other Acting Credits

Caunter’s acting career extended far beyond his role in EastEnders. He appeared in various other TV shows and dramas, including Pennies From Heaven, Tumbledown, and Juliet Bravo. He also starred alongside EastEnders actor Michael Elphick in the TV series Boon.

Personal Life and Legacy

Caunter is survived by his daughter, three sons, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His family announced that he passed away peacefully at Eastbourne District General Hospital, just eight days after his wife of 63 years, Fran. The family expressed their gratitude to the staff at East Sussex Hospital for their care during his final hours and to the team at Eastbourne Gardens care home for their compassion over the last few months.

Tributes and Memories

A statement from EastEnders said, "Tony will forever be loved and respected by everyone at EastEnders for his warmth, kindness, and humor, and will be deeply remembered by everyone at home who took Roy immediately to their hearts." His family has requested privacy during this difficult time, and it is clear that Caunter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
