Taylor Swift Concert Film and Documentary Coming to Disney+
The full Taylor Swift concert film, The Era Tour | The last show, with the entire Tortured Poets Department set, and a documentary of the tour are coming to stream. The film and the first two episodes of the documentary, Taylor Swift | The Era Tour | The end of an era, will be released on Disney+ on December 12th.
Announcement and Background
Swift announced the news, including the six-episode behind-the-scenes documentary, on her social media Monday morning. She stated that it was the end of an era and they wanted to remember every moment leading up to the culmination of the most important and intense chapter of their lives. The filmmakers were allowed to capture the tour and all the stories associated with it as it came to an end, and to film the final show in its entirety.
Release Schedule
Following its release on December 12th, two episodes of the docuseries will be released weekly. This news comes hot on the heels of the record-breaking release of her latest album, The life of a showgirl, on October 3rd.
Documentary Details
The docuseries, Taylor Swift | The Era Tour | The end of an era, will chronicle the development, impact, and inner workings that gave rise to the phenomenon The Eras Tour. It will provide an intimate look into Taylor’s life as her tour made headlines and delighted fans around the world. The series will spotlight cast members, family members, and Swift’s friends, including Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, and Florence Welch, to offer never-before-seen insights into the making of a phenomenon.
Concert Film Details
The complete concert film, The Era Tour | The last show, was filmed in Vancouver to capture the final show of the tour. It was directed by Glenn Weiss and produced by Taylor Swift Productions in association with Silent House Productions.
Album Success
Swift’s latest album, The life of a showgirl, was seen as a return to some of her standard pop albums, such as 1989, but tended to be more of a mix of Always and midnight. The album sold 2.7 million copies on its release day, making it her biggest week ever on that day alone. As of Wednesday, it had reportedly sold 3.2 million copies with 300,000 streaming units, bringing its record-breaking total to 3.5 million.
Promotional Activities
The singer has been making the rounds on late-night television to promote Showgirl. She appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about the album, her recent engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and her friend Selena Gomez’s wedding. She also stopped by NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers on October 8th.
Accompanying Film
In addition to the album, Swift released an accompanying film, which offered the opportunity to preview the lead single’s music video. The release event grossed $34.1 million at the box office in the United States in its opening weekend and an additional $16 million worldwide, for a total of $50.1 million worldwide.
