Saturday Night Live Cold Open
This week’s cold open of "Saturday Night Live" featured host Amy Poehler and her best friend Tina Fey, who played Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem, respectively. The sketch began by depicting part of Bondi’s contentious Senate hearing this week, in which the United States attorney general faced scrutiny and restraint on issues such as the Jeffrey Epstein files.
The Senate Hearing
When asked whether Trump directed her to indict James Comey, the AG did not respond. Instead, Poehler, as Bondi, said, “I will not discuss my private conversations with the president,” and added a humorous twist, saying, “I’m not telling you who fell asleep mid-sentence or who kept calling me Ivanka while patting his lap.”
Discussing Jeffrey Epstein’s Files
She also discussed Jeffrey Epstein’s files, saying, "I tried to read the Epstein files, but I got really bored. It’s so monotonous. ‘Trump this, Trump that.’" Yawn." This lighthearted take on a serious issue added to the comedic tone of the sketch.
Kristi Noem’s Appearance
Soon, Fey’s Noem came in, complete with an automatic weapon. Noem said during her appearance, “That’s right, it’s me, Kristi,” and jokingly explained that she spells her name with an "I" because "that’s who I am."
The Hiring Process for ICE
Noem also gave insight into the hiring process for ICE, as Fey revealed: "How did I find them? By running ads like this: Do you need a job now? Yes. Are you a big tough guy? Yes. Tough enough for the army or the police? No. Do you take nutritional supplements that you bought at a gas station? Every day. Do you like to use zip ties because the people in your life don’t trust you with keys? You know that. Suck some of these big boys. Welcome to ICE.”
The Dog Shooting Scandal
Noem also talked about her involvement in a dog shooting scandal and said, "This makes me laugh more than the ending of ‘Old Yeller’." and “Dogs don’t just get shot – a hero shoots them.” The sketch ended with a comedic take on serious issues, leaving viewers entertained and informed.
