Introduction to H is for Hawk
Roadside Attractions has acquired the North American rights to the film H is for Hawk, which is set to premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 12. The company plans to release the film in a qualifying run for the awards in December, starring Claire Foy.
The Film’s Plot and Cast
The film, directed by Philippa Lowthorpe, tells the story of a grieving woman who turns to falconry to cope with the loss of her father. The cast includes notable actors such as Brendan Gleeson, Denise Gough, Lindsay Duncan, and Sam Spruell. Lowthorpe co-wrote the script with Room author and screenwriter Emma Donoghue, based on Helen Macdonald’s memoir of the same name.
Production and Distribution
The film was produced by Plan B and premiered in Telluride. Executive producers include Film4’s Farhana Bhula and Ollie Madden, who developed the script with Plan B, as well as Saturnia, Kliff Studios, City Hill Arts, Desmar, Protagonist Pictures, Peephole Productions, Lionsgate UK, Foy, and Helen Macdonald. Roadside Attractions is scheduled to release H is for Hawk in early 2026, while Lionsgate will distribute the film in the UK and Ireland.
Acquisition and International Distribution
Roadside Attractions negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers with UTA Independent Film Group and Protagonist Pictures. Protagonist Pictures also handles international distribution, ensuring that the film will reach a global audience. With its talented cast and crew, H is for Hawk is expected to make a significant impact in the film industry. Claire Foy’s involvement in the project is particularly notable, given her impressive credits in The Crown and Women Talk.
