Life on Tour with Conan Gray
Conan Gray, a 26-year-old singer, has been touring since he was a teenager. He recently shared his thoughts on life on tour, saying, "A certain part of me feels strangely more comfortable on tour than at home." Currently, he is preparing to travel to Mexico next month after completing the American leg of his tour, The Wishbone Pajama Show.
The Latest Album: Wishbone
Gray’s fourth studio album, wishbone, was released in August, led by the single "Vodka Cranberry." He believes this album is the best representation of who he is as a person. "I think the music explains much better how much my life has changed and how much I think I’ve become myself," he says. Gray feels that wishbone suits him more than any other album he’s ever made.
Tour Experience and Routine
When asked about the tour, Gray replied, "Great. It really is a dream come true." He enjoys the routine that comes with touring, which includes waking up, drinking coffee, playing cards, and writing songs. This routine helps him feel more normal, even in different locations. Gray also mentioned that he’s been touring for a while now, and there’s a part of him that feels strangely comfortable on tour.
The Meaning Behind Wishbone
Gray explained that wishbone represents where he is right now. The album is a culmination of all the changes he’s experienced while growing up. "I think the music explains much better how much my life has changed and how much I think I’ve become myself," he says. The transformations he’s undergone have resulted in an album that is a little bit of everything he’s ever been through.
Writing Music as an Outlet
Gray uses writing music as an outlet to work through things. He wrote wishbone while actively participating in his life, resulting in an album that is truly playful and emotional. "I’ve always written music, since I was 10 or 11 I’ve always written," he says. Gray wrote one, two, or three songs a day, as he had a lot to express.
Promotion and Release
Gray feels that the trust he has placed in wishbone has resulted in a different promotion and release experience compared to his previous albums. He was proud of the album and wanted to share it with the world. "I would have done anything to make people just listen," he says. Gray’s pride in the album changed everything for him, making him want to perform the songs in front of people.
Looking to the Future
Gray has thought about what comes next, but he’s trying not to think about it too much. He wants to keep making music without letting people’s reactions affect him. His goal is to continue down the path that felt right while creating wishbone. Gray believes that this approach will allow him to stay true to himself and create music that is authentic and meaningful.
