UK-Ireland cinema preview: ‘I Swear’ and ‘Tron: Ares’ lead to new releases

New Releases in Cinemas

This weekend, several new films will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland. Two of the most notable releases are Studiocanal’s Scottish drama I Swear and Disney’s AI action film Tron: Ares. I Swear will open at 653 locations, while Tron: Ares will launch at 608 venues.

I Swear

I Swear is directed by Kirk Jones and tells the true story of John Davidson, who was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome in the 1980s. The film features a talented cast, including Peter Mullan, Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson, and Robert Aramayo. Kirk Jones has previously directed successful films such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and Nanny McPhee.

Tron: Ares

Tron: Ares is the third installment in the Tron series and acts as a sequel to Tron: Legacy, which opened with £2m and grossed £10.4m throughout its run. The film stars Jared Leto as an advanced program soldier brought into the physical world. The cast also includes Greta Lee, Jeff Bridges, Gillian Anderson, Evan Peters, and Jodie Turner-Smith.

Other New Releases

In addition to I Swear and Tron: Ares, several other films will be released in cinemas this weekend. These include the horror film Good Boy, which will appear on 330 websites via Vertigo Releasing, and Tim Burton’s 2005 animated film Corpse Bride, which will be featured in 325 cinemas by Park Circus.

Anime and Documentaries

Anime Ltd will release the Japanese anime Perfect Blue in 164 locations. The documentary Iron Ladies will be introduced via Miracle Comms and Dazzler, following the women involved in the 1984/85 miners’ strike. Other documentaries include Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird, about the progressive band The Mars Volta, and The Perfect Neighbor, which won a prize at Sundance.

Romantic Thrillers and More

Curzon will open the romantic thriller Civil at 51 locations, starring Russell Tovey and Tom Blyth. The film follows an undercover police officer tasked with arresting gay men in 1990s New York. Other releases include the Indian drama Raavi, the animation Night of the Zoopocalypse, and the Irish documentary film A Desire Within Her.
