Introduction to Maddie’s Secret

Magnolia Pictures has acquired the US rights to a new comedy film, after it premiered on the opening night of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film, which stars John Early, tells the story of a courageous dishwasher who rises to viral superstardom at a trendy food content creation company.

The Plot Unfolds

The main character, Maddie, seems to have a picturesquely perfect life, but increasing professional pressures bring her dormant struggle with an eating disorder back to life. Unwilling to ruin her image, she secretly falters, threatening her relationships and her life. The film features a talented cast, including Eric Rahill, Kate Berlant, and Kristen Johnston.

Behind the Scenes

The film was produced by Harris Mayersohn, alongside Luca Intili and John Early, for Dogma 3000. The executive producers include Chris Quintos Cathcart and Tyler Boehm for Unapologetic Projects, Hannah Dweck and Theodore Schaefer for Dweck Productions, Sarah Herrman for Whetstone Pictures, Deb Tam for Radish, Matthew Rosenthal, and Marissa Heringer.

Release Plans

John Von Thaden, SVP of acquisitions at Magnolia Pictures, negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers with UTA Independent Film Group. The film is targeting a theatrical release in 2026, giving audiences something to look forward to in the coming years. With its unique blend of comedy and drama, this film is sure to resonate with viewers and spark important conversations about mental health and the pressures of social media.
