Introduction to a Unique Pub Crawl

A pub landlord in Staffordshire is gearing up for an extraordinary pub crawl. David Danby, who owns The Vine in Tutbury, is set to visit 14 different venues with his band, Last of the Summer Vines, over the course of two days. The goal of this ambitious undertaking is to raise funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance, a charity that provides critical care and transportation to those in need.

The Concept Behind the Pub Crawl

The band’s live debut will feature half-hour gigs at a different pub every hour, starting at 2 pm and ending at 8 pm BST on both Saturday and Sunday. This unique approach to fundraising was conceived by David Danby, who wanted to support the charity in an entertaining and engaging way. As he explained, "We just thought, let’s raise some more money for the charity and let’s do it in a really, really entertaining way."

The Importance of the Charity

David Danby also emphasized the vital role that rescue aircraft, like those operated by the Midlands Air Ambulance, play in emergency situations. He noted, "As everyone knows, rescue aircraft play a huge, huge role." By supporting this charity, the band hopes to make a positive impact on their community.

The Band’s Music and Performance

Last of the Summer Vines has been together for about five months and has prepared an exciting setlist for their pub crawl. The band will be performing covers of famous artists, including The Kinks, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, Status Quo, and Neil Diamond. According to David Danby, they will be "strumming very hard and very loud" to entertain their audiences.

The Band’s Background and Experience

David Danby has experience with live music, having attended open mic nights in the past. However, this is the first time he has put together a band and performed as part of a group. He mentioned that he and his wife have always enjoyed live music in the pubs they visit, which inspired him to take the stage himself.

The Logistics of the Pub Crawl

All the pubs participating in the pub crawl are located in or near Burton-on-Trent, making it feasible for the band to travel between venues within a short drive time of 10 to 15 minutes. The tour will begin and end at The Vine, where buckets will be available for donations to the Midlands Air Ambulance. This unique pub crawl promises to be an exciting and entertaining event that supports a worthy cause.
