Introduction to Boyzone’s Farewell Concert
The Irish group Boyzone has announced that it will play a unique concert in the London Emirates stage next year. The event entitled One for the Road will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, on the Arsenal Football Ground. Singer Ronan Keating described the stadium appearance – the first and largest of her career – as a "last farewell" for the boy band of the nineties, the hits with ballads including words and no matter what happens.
The Reason Behind the Concert
It will be their first joint performance in a five-night run in the London Palladium in 2019 and will be a positive reaction to their latest documentary Boyzone: No matter what happens. The singer Ronan Keating said, "We don’t make new music, it’s no reunion," on Tuesday to BBC Breakfast. "There are many bands that do. Everyone was part of Boyzone’s journey, this story they shared, they cried with us, they laughed with us through the documentary."
A Celebration and a Goodbye
The singer Shane Lynch admitted that he had previously thought that the group, which also includes Keith Duffy and Mikey Graham, "definitely no longer share a stage". Duffy confirmed that it "will not be a tour". He added: "It is a celebration, it is the last chapter, they are US boys, one last time together on stage." Keating said, "And now to get to Emirates together and say goodbye to all of us as we want to do it will be pretty powerful."
The Documentary and Grief
The Brit Prize winner Boyzone achieved six singles number one in Great Britain and plan to play all of their hits at the concert where they could have indicated that some "friends" could be accompanied. Their most recent documentary looked back on her career and looked up the topic of grief, including the death of her bandmate Stephen Gately at the age of 33. When asked by BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent, how the band healed after what they had gone through, Keating replied: "I don’t know if they heal."
Healing and Moving Forward
"I think you put a band aid on it and you crack, and we did that," he continued. "We were together, we were separated. We find it easier when we are together because Steo [Gately] Lives when we are together. This is a nice thing … But it will be difficult to get on this stage without getting it on." The concert will be a celebration of their career and a final goodbye to their fans.
