Introduction to Taylor Swift’s New Film
Taylor Swift’s new film, The Official Release Party of a Show Girl, has broken records in its first day of pre-sales, exceeding those of her concert documentary The Eras Tour. The film is an 89-minute look behind the scenes of the making of Swift’s new album, The Life of a Show Girl.
Record-Breaking Pre-Sales
According to Johnny Carr, head of Event Cinema and Distribution at VUE International, the first day of pre-sales for The Official Release Party of a Show Girl has seen an 80% increase in sales compared to The Eras Tour in European markets, with a 40% increase in the UK. Carr stated, "Within seconds after the publication of tickets, we have already seen an incredible reaction and increased our number of shows to satisfy the demand for what is expected to be the greatest music event of the year."
Film Details
The Official Release Party of a Show Girl will have a limited cinema release in over 50 territories from October 3 to 5. The film includes the music video for ‘The Fate of Ophelia’, the lead single from the album, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of the music video shoot, new lyric videos, and Swift’s thoughts on the songs from her 12th studio album.
Comparison to Previous Releases
Stuart Crane, Vice President for International Content at the CineWorld Group, noted that the film has sold more tickets in the first 24 hours than The Eras Tour film, which previously broke global pre-sale records. Crane stated, "This fantastic response shows the incredible connection that Taylor Swift has with her fans. We encourage fans to secure their tickets soon via the CineWorld website or app to avoid disappointment."
Global Release
AMC Theater, the world’s largest chain by number of venues, will play the film in all 540 of its locations in North America, with tickets going on sale on September 19. The film will also play in selected areas in Latin America and additional European and Asian markets, with dates and ticket information to be announced later. In total, the film will play in over 110 countries.
Competition and Scheduling
The exhibitors will need to balance the demand for The Official Release Party of a Show Girl with space for other films. Other new releases on October 3 to 5 in the UK and Ireland include The Smashing Machine, Him, and Urban. The first week of October is also a major period for event releases, with several concert films, including a BTS concert film and Radiohead X Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, scheduled to be released.
