The Internet’s Quick Turn on Celebrities
Pete Davidson recently appeared on Theo von’s "Last Weekend" podcast, where he discussed how social media can quickly turn against entertainment figures that they had previously loved. He used Pedro Pascal as an example, saying that just a few years ago, Pascal was praised for his hard work and dedication to his craft.
The Rise and Fall of Public Opinion
"Two years ago he was a hardworking, great actor," said Davidson. "Everyone said: ‘He worked so hard and was a fighting actor.’ Then a year later he is now in everything because he is hot and big and everyone says: ‘Go to hell, age.’" This sudden shift in public opinion is not unique to Pascal, according to Davidson. He believes that social media is quick to build up celebrities, only to tear them down just as quickly.
The Need for Time to Adapt
Davidson argued that celebrities need time to adapt to their new level of fame. "You have to give someone time to adapt to the new level of fame," he said. "He has been banging on it for 30 years and now he learns how to get a cup of coffee or deal with someone who knocks you on your shoulder while you take your earphones and freaking out. You have to give this guy a damn second to adapt." This is especially true for actors like Pascal, who have recently landed major roles in big franchises.
The Crazy Turn on Celebrities
"It’s like building all of us. It’s so quickly to be turned [on the celebrity]," Davidson said. "The turn is crazy." He also mentioned that Pascal is not alone in this experience, and that social media will likely do the same to other celebrities, such as Walton Goggins, in the near future.
Pedro Pascal’s Recent Career
Pascal has recently taken on major roles in several big franchises, including "Star Wars" and Marvel. He is set to star in "The Mandalorian and Grogu" in May 2026 and "Fantastic Four" this summer. However, his casting in the Marvel Cinematic universe was met with backlash from social media users, who criticized his age and appearance.
The Backlash Against Pedro Pascal
"I am more aware of the annoyance of my casting than anything I have ever done," Pascal said about playing Reed Richards/MR. Fantastic. He noted that the common criticisms he heard were: "He is too old. He is not right. He has to shave." Despite the backlash, Pascal is moving forward with his career, and fans can expect to see him in several upcoming projects.
