Bruce Springsteen’s Latest Interview
Bruce Springsteen recently sat down for an interview with Time Magazine, where he discussed a wide range of topics, including his career, family, therapy, and tours with the E Street Band. The interview coincides with the 50th anniversary of his iconic album "Born to Run," which was first announced on the cover of Time Magazine almost exactly 50 years ago.
Speaking Out Against Donald Trump
Springsteen has been vocal about his criticism of President Donald Trump, starting with a 2017 interview where he expressed his direct criticism. During his Broadway residency in 2018, he continued to speak out against Trump, calling his administration "corrupt, incompetent, and treacherous." Trump responded by mocking Springsteen in a video and claiming that the musician was "stupid" for not supporting him.
Springsteen Fires Back
In his latest interview, Springsteen fires back at Trump with possibly his strongest statements yet. He says, "If I’m going to stay true to the person I’ve tried to be… I couldn’t give these guys a free pass." He’s referring to Trump and his enablers in the government, who he believes have lied to the American people. Springsteen adds that Trump’s policies only benefit the wealthy and powerful, rather than the "forgotten" people he claims to care about.
A Scathing Critique of Trump
Springsteen also addresses Trump’s personal attacks against him, saying that it’s "less important to me what he thinks about me." He believes that Trump is a "lively personification of the 25th amendment" and that Congress should have the courage to hold him accountable. Springsteen’s criticism of Trump is scathing, and he pulls no punches in his assessment of the former president’s character and policies.
Criticism of the Democratic Party
Springsteen also doesn’t shy away from criticizing the Democratic Party, which he believes has been ineffective in countering Trump and the Republican Party. He says, "We desperately need an effective alternative party or for the Democratic Party to find someone who can speak to the majority of the nation." Springsteen believes that the Democratic Party needs to change its language and approach in order to reach more people and effectively counter the Republican Party’s message.
