Introduction to Rose of Nevada
The BFI distribution has acquired British theater rights for Mark Jenkin’s film, Rose of Nevada, starring George Mackay and Callum Turner. The distributor plans to release the film in 2026, with Protagonist Pictures handling sales.
Film Festivals and Premieres
Rose of Nevada premiered in Horizons at the Venice Film Festival in August and will have its North American premiere as a special presentation in Toronto. The film will also have its British premiere in the official competition at the BFI London Film Festival next month, with all three festival screenings already sold out.
The Film’s Plot
The film tells the story of a mysterious boat, the Rose of Nevada, which is recovered in the port of a Cornish fishing village. Two men join the crew, hoping for a better future, but they are sent back in time and mistaken for the original crew.
Production and Financing
The film was written and directed by Mark Jenkin and produced by Denzil Monk for Bosena. It was developed by Film4 and co-financed by the BFI and Film4. The executive producers are Ama Ampadu for BFI and Farhana Bhula, Ollie Madden, and Ben Core for Film4.
The Relationship Between Jenkin and BFI Distribution
The deal marks the continuation of the relationship between Jenkin and BFI Distribution, which has released the filmmaker’s previous works, Bait in 2019 and Men in 2023. Laura Dos Santos, BFI head of acquisitions, stated that they are excited to continue their relationship with Mark Jenkin, one of the most exciting film directors of our time.
Unique Film Experience
According to Dos Santos, Rose of Nevada is a "strikingly unique film – a story of time and community, deeply sensory, full of tenderness and humanity." Jenkin also expressed his excitement about working with BFI Distribution again, stating that it seems completely fitting to complete his Cornish trilogy with Rose of Nevada.
