Protest Against Israel’s War in Gaza
Thousands of people gathered in San Sebastian on Wednesday, September 24, to protest against Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza. The demonstration took place after the Spanish premiere of the documentary "The Voice of the Hind Rajab" at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The Documentary
"The Voice of the Hind Rajab" is a documentary based on actual events that took place in January 2024. The film shows the efforts of Palestinian Red Crescent aid workers to save the life of six-year-old Palestinian Rajab, who was killed in a car in Gaza city along with several members of her family. The documentary features actual audio recordings of Rajab’s calls to emergency services, making it a powerful and emotional portrayal of the events.
Emotional Reaction
The documentary had a profound impact on the audience, with many left in tears. The actors Saja Kilani and Motaz Malhees, who were involved in the screening, were particularly moved by the film. Malhees told the press that he still hears Hind’s voice in his head and remembers the emotional moment during the shoot when he thought they would save her. He realized that the harsh reality of the situation was that she was killed, along with six members of her family, in cold blood.
The Protest
The protest in San Sebastian was attended by thousands of people, including the director of the San Sebastian Film Festival, José Luis Rebordinos, Spain’s Minister of Culture Ernest Urtasun, and filmmakers Isaka Lacuesta and Julio Medem. The demonstrators marched through the streets of the Basque city, showing their support for the Palestinian people and their opposition to Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza.
A Call to Action
The documentary and the protest serve as a reminder of the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the need for action to be taken to protect the lives of innocent people, like Rajab. The film and the demonstration are a call to action, urging people to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to demand an end to the violence and bloodshed in Gaza.
