Observations of Resilience
I also gradually see the resilience in their faces. It affects me how the older children look at the young people here. How quickly you grow up. And how quickly do you learn what it really is about.
Stories of Hope
Some of the children shared their stories of struggle and hope. One child recalled, "I used to think that luck was on a big vacation. Now I feel it when I tell my father something and get a reaction from him." Another child cherished the hug she received from her father when she came in, "That he still recognizes me." A friend’s support meant a lot to one child, "That means a lot for me."
A Child’s Perspective
He is silent for a moment, but then says, "When I go to my father, I see that he wants to make it easy for my brother and me. So that we are not always reminded that he can no longer do anything. I now see how much he is doing for me and how much he loves me."
