New Movie Releases in the UK and Ireland

This weekend, several new movies are being released in the UK and Ireland. One of the most anticipated releases is Sony’s "A big, brave nice journey", starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. The movie follows two strangers who embark on a magical journey to experience important moments from their respective pasts. With a wide release at 640 venues, it’s expected to perform well at the box office.

Box Office Predictions

The movie’s success can be attributed to the bankable stars, Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. Robbie’s previous movie, "Barbie", opened to 18.5 million GBP in 2023 and became the sixth highest-grossing film in the territory. Similarly, Farrell’s "The Banshees of Inishherin" debuted with 1.6 million GBP in 2022 and went on to earn almost 10 million GBP. Other Sony titles, such as "Materialist" and Studiocanal’s "We live in time", have also seen solid numbers at the box office.

In addition to "A big, brave nice journey", other notable releases include the Polish animation "Diplo: The mighty dinosaurs", which starts in 311 locations for Signature Entertainment. The film follows a dinosaur who lives in a comic book world that begins to disappear around him. Trafalgar Releasing has several event releases, including "David Gilmour live at the Maximus circus" in 323 sites, "The sound of music 60th anniversary" on Saturday, and "Andrea Bocelli: Because I think" in 230 locations from Sunday.

International Films

Modern Films has the Japanese science fiction "Happyend" at 27 places, while Break Out Pictures releases the Irish romance "Girls & boys" in 19 cinemas. New Wave opens the French drama "Ghost trail" at nine locations, and Band Collective releases the dystopian drama "Can I get a witness?" in eight cinemas.

Documentaries and Biopics

The US sports biopic "Queen of the ring" starts in five locations for Vertigo Releasing, telling the story of female wrestler Mildred Burke.

Holdover Titles

The most significant holdover titles are "Downton Abbey: The Great Finale" and "The magic: last rites".
